Job Summary
The AISRS Reporter/Journalist is responsible for researching, collecting, verifying, and analyzing accurate information to produce timely, balanced, and high-quality news content across print, broadcast, and digital platforms. The role covers political, economic, social, security, and regional affairs and requires conducting interviews, attending events, field reporting, and covering breaking news, often under tight deadlines and high-pressure or crisis situations. The reporter contributes to AISRS’s mission by delivering factual, analytical, and impactful stories while adhering strictly to professional journalistic ethics, objectivity, and statutory regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Cover daily events, press conferences, official meetings, policy briefings, and major national and regional developments.
- Verify information, evidence, and claim through background checks and cross-referencing.
- Build and maintain a reliable database of sources across government, civil society, academia, and communities.
- Conduct interviews with subject-matter experts, public officials, and stakeholders.
- Write professional news stories, features, interviews, and analytical reports aligned with AISRS editorial standards.
- Produce clear, factual, objective, and well-structured content.
- Meet daily, weekly, and assignment-based deadlines.
- Adapt content for broadcast scripts, online articles, and social media posts.
- Write, edit, and deliver accurate content for broadcast, web, and social media platforms.
- Organize material, determine framing, and produce features, scripts, reports, and live segments.
- Deliver live reports from events, studios, or mobile broadcast units when required.
- Record and edit field and in-studio audio for broadcast-ready content.
- Produce voiceovers, piece-to-camera reports, and event coverage.
- Collaborate with production and digital teams to meet schedules and technical requirements.
- Ensure balance, clarity, and objectivity in all reporting.
- Adhere to ethical, legal, and copyright standards for publication and broadcast.
- Follow AISRS editorial policies and internal approval procedures.
- Provide timely and factual coverage of emergencies, security incidents, and major national events.
- Prioritize personal safety and comply with AISRS security protocols.
- Work closely with editors, camera crews, photographers, researchers, program and digital teams.
- Participate in editorial meetings, planning sessions, and professional training workshops.
- Submit reports, scripts, and multimedia content in required formats and deadlines.
- Provide periodic progress reports on completed assignments.
- Participate in fundraising broadcasts or institutional events when required.
- Perform other job-related duties as necessary.
Working Conditions
- Local travel for documentation of meetings, fieldwork, and interviews.
- Close coordination with research teams, program, administration, and external partners.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required during events, campaigns, or crisis situations.
Job Requirements
Education & technical skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with digital publishing, social media, and multimedia storytelling.
Experience
- Minimum of three (5 years of relevant professional experience or a strong portfolio of published work.
Languages
- Excellent command of Pashto and Dari.
- Strong proficiency in English (written and spoken).
