Job Summary
The Translator/Interpreter is responsible for providing high-quality written translation and oral interpretation services between English, Dari, and Pashto. The role supports AISRS research, media outputs, conferences, publications, and engagements with national and international stakeholders. The position requires linguistic accuracy, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and strict adherence to confidentiality standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Translate documents, articles, research papers, news content, reports, policies, contracts, and media materials from English to Dari and Pashto and vice versa.
- Translate legal and official documents of international origin with accuracy and contextual precision.
- Translate and transcribe audio and video materials, including interviews, speeches, and recorded events.
- Proofread and edit translated content to ensure grammatical accuracy, consistency, clarity, and readability.
- Provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation during conferences, seminars, workshops, meetings, interviews, and public events.
- Interpret for international guests, delegations, and visiting scholars.
- Prepare for interpretation assignments through background research and subject-matter review.
- Organize, archive, and maintain translated materials in both digital and hard-copy formats.
- Support document management and administrative tasks related to translation and interpretation activities.
- Assist in assessing interpretation and translation needs for AISRS programs and events.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and data protection for all documents and discussions.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned by the Managing Director or Media Director.
Working Conditions
- Office-based position in Kabul with standard working hours.
- Occasional domestic travel to provinces for conferences, workshops, and field activities.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required during events, campaigns, or crisis situations.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, English, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.
- Advanced or specialized degrees may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in translation and/or interpretation.
- Experience working with media, research institutions, NGOs, or international organizations is an asset.
Languages
Fluency in English, Dari, and Pashtu is required. Also, the ability to translate from English into Dari or Pashtu, and vice versa and from Dari into Pashtu and vice versa is required.
