Job Summary
The Media Manager / Head of Media is responsible for leading, designing, and implementing AISRS’s overall media, communications, and digital engagement strategy. The role ensures that AISRS’s research, policy outputs, and institutional activities are communicated effectively to diverse audiences through traditional media, digital platforms, and strategic partnerships.
The Media Manager oversees content development, media relations, branding, and online presence while ensuring high-quality, accurate, and impactful communication aligned with AISRS’s mission and strategic objectives. The position also involves budget oversight, performance monitoring, crisis communication, and close coordination with research and management teams.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive media and communications strategy aligned with AISRS’s institutional goals.
- Prepare annual, quarterly, and activity-based media and communications plans.
- Lead the creation, editing, and dissemination of high-quality content, including articles, press releases, policy briefs, reports, op-eds, newsletters, and multimedia products.
- Ensure consistency of messaging, tone, and branding across all communication channels.
- Establish editorial guidelines and content calendars.
- Manage AISRS’s website and all social media platforms.
- Strengthen digital visibility, audience reach, and engagement through data-driven approaches.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate marketing and promotional campaigns for AISRS events, publications, and initiatives.
- Identify innovative communication tools and platforms to expand institutional reach nationally and internationally.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with national, regional, and international media outlets, journalists, editors, and influencers.
- Coordinate interviews, press briefings, media coverage, and public appearances of AISRS leadership and researchers.
- Develop and manage the media and communications budget.
- Ensure cost-effective use of resources and timely financial reporting related to media activities.
- Provide guidance and, where necessary, training to staff and contributors on media engagement and communication standards.
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans to protect and enhance AISRS’s institutional credibility.
Work Conditions
- This is an office-based position located in Kabul, Afghanistan.
- The role may require occasional travel to project sites, events, conferences, or provinces within Afghanistan, as well as limited international travel when necessary.
- Flexibility in working hours may be required during events, campaigns, or crisis situations.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Media Studies, Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in media management, communications, or journalism, preferably within think tanks, research institutions, NGOs, or international organizations.
- Demonstrated experience working with national and international media outlets.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Pashto and Dari is essential.
Languages
- Fluency in Pashto and Dari is required, and Strong proficiency in English (written and spoken).
